Most people have a list of things they want to do before they turn 20, 30 or 40. All sorts of things: Jumping from an airplane, seeing the Northern lights, speaking a new language, buying a house, getting a Masters degree..and that’s why when I turned 29 (in April) I decided to make my own list. And that’s how it all started.
But first, you need to know something about me: I was always fascinated, even as a child, by History, castles and ruins. I always felt I should’ve been born in the 17th or 18th century (maybe I was there too, who knows). So, since I’ve moved to Ireland I’ve been hunting for special places and the (Hi)story behind them. And that’s where the idea of 30 castles before 30 came from.
30 Castles before 30 is a personal project and it involves a lot. Even though I love towers and ramparts, it’s not only about taking pictures in front of a pretty castle. It’s about exploring, searching, learning, and even feeling part of the place.
The project counts with the indispensable participation of my life-and-adventure partner Peter, who is often dragged around the castles, ruins and narrow roads, but he prefers that than going to the shopping centre with me, so it all works just fine.
I’ve already visited 13 castles and from next week on I’ll start sharing with you this amazing experience. So, stay tuned!
